The East Coburg Cricket Club can trace its origins to a series of social games of cricket played between a group of friends, who formed two teams, back in the summers of 1980 and 1981. These matches were played on ovals at Royal Park , Parkville.
East Coburg Cricket Club was established in the 1982/83 season, introduced a women’s team in 1999/2000 and a junior team in 2010/11 and today we call Brearley Reserve (Pascoe Vale) home.
The club successfully completed its first senior season in the Northern Suburban Cricket Association (NSCA) reaching the semi-final in 1982/1983. The following season the club moved to the Coburg District Cricket Association (CDCA), as this competition offered turf cricket. It was not long before East Coburg CC won its first senior premiership in the 1985-86 season in C Grade. During the 80’s and 90’s, the club expanded their senior men’s teams in the CDCA and later the newly formed Moreland Moonee Valley Cricket Association (MMVCA), which was disbanded in 2009/2010.
The club has enjoyed much on field success, playing (and winning) many finals and grand finals across all grades. Since 2010/11 we have entered Senior Men’s and Junior teams with the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association (NWMCA) and the Victorian Turf Cricket Association (VTCA) and Women’s team in the North Metro Cricket Association.
The 2018/19 season saw the return of female cricket when we joined with Haig Fawkner to enter a Womens T20 team. We have played as a combined team since then and this model continues to support our women’s cricket team.
In 2010/11 East Coburg CC embarked on setting up a junior program, starting with a skilled based program (formerly Milo in2 Cricket) and one under 11s boys’ team in the North Metro Cricket Association (NMCA). Today, we partner with Woolworths via Blast sessions to deliver fun cricket activities to our youngest boys and girls.
We enter Junior teams in the Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 junior divisions of the NWMCA. Our junior programs have seen a lot of success. Juniors are given the opportunity to play senior cricket under the mentorship of the senior players, creating a pathway for them into senior cricket.
Our juniors have played in NWMCA Boys Representative teams in the Under 12's, 14, 16 and 18 age divisions, which compete in the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Association (VMCU) junior carnival, Under 15 JG Craig Shield and earned selection in Cricket Victoria Youth Premier League teams.
Over the past 43 seasons we have had on-field success, winning Senior Men’s Premierships, Senior Womens Premiership and Junior Premierships, plus many Association Batting & Bowling Awards at senior men, women and junior level.
Over 800 players, men, women and young people, from a huge wealth of cultures, have worn the green and gold cap. It is a club that embraces its diversity and welcomes everyone to participate. We pride ourselves on being a family friendly club, creating friendships which have spanned generations.
